Latest From Blogigs - WordPress 3 New Default Theme |
Posted: 18 Jun 2010 05:58 AM PDT Named like some Greek God, Thelonious is the name of WordPress 3, the latest major upgrade to hit the streets today. Lots of WordPress bloggers have already written about this latest wonder so I won’t be joining the bandwagon about what this latest version has to offer. You also can read more about it at the official WordPress Blog. What I am more interested in is the new default theme that comes with it. The Twenty Ten 1.0 by the WordPress Team. The new default theme is one really cool theme. It takes away the hassle from the 3 areas of what most WordPress Bloggers tends to want to change in their themes to make it unique to them. Change The Background. Changing the background is now a breeze and you do not need any meddling of the css codes which sometimes do not work with Internet Explorer. With this new option, all you have to do is use the color selector, choose the color you like and save the changes. If you want too go a step further by using an image, just use the image uploader provided to upload you image. Included are options to position the image left, center or right if your image does not fill up the whole screen. You can also set it to no repeat which means the image will only appear once where you have position it. If you tile it, then the image will appear repeatedly to cover the whole screen. You can also set the image to ‘scroll’ which means the background image is attached to your blog contents and when you scroll down the image will follow suit. If you choose ‘fixed’, then only your blog contents will move and the background image remains fixed. Replacing The Header Image. Again no more CSS shit to change or add. Just upload your new image and voila, you have a new look. There are eight default images and if those does not suit you, create your own. Make sure you make to the right size of 940 × 198 pixels as specified. A New Widgetized Footer What do you know, the new Theme comes with a 4 column widgetized footer. Utilizing the footer to clear up the congested sidebars is fast becoming a very popular function in many WordPress Theme. It looks kind of bland though. Will have to dig up the codes to give it some styling when I have the time, but the fact that a widgetized footer has been included is really thoughtful. Other that just the improved default Theme, many other improvements have been added to WordPress 3. Upgrading is a painless 3 second job using the Automatic Upgrade feature.
