After getting approved from Union Cabinet on last Thursday. The Indian rupee currency symbol is now the fifth currency in the world to have a distinct identity. The rupee will join the elite club of US dollar, British pound-sterling, Euro and Japanese yen to have its own symbol. It is a perfect blend of Indian and Roman letters: a capital 'R', and Devanagari 'ra', which represent rupiya, to appeal to international and Indian audiences."

  • Mangalore based Foradian Technologies Pvt Ltd has created a new font, "Rupee_Foradian" that lets you use the new Indian Currency Symbol.

  • Download the new font. You will have a .ttf file on your desktop. Head on to the folder 'C:/Windows/Fonts' and paste the .ttf file.


  • Now, open a word file. Select "Rupee_Foradian" font from the dropdown list of font in your application. 
  • Type the first character on the keyboard. It appears just above the 'tab' key on your keyboard. It will display the new rupee symbol. Enjoy it!
